It’s Halloween! So wanna trick or these treats?
Last year, I told the kids the one thing they don’t wanna hear.
“We’re gonna do something different kids, passing out candy is NOT healthy!” You know what came next, right? “MOOOOOOM really? what are we gonna do?”
OK hold on there. Stop the freaking out on me.
“We’re passing out healthy treats.” Both Geo and Avery rolled their eyes, sighed and mouthed not so nice things. Even if I didn’t hear it, I SAW IT! Let’s not get into the attitude situation for the sake of not making you bored out of your mind.
So I go to Sam’s club the day before Halloween ( It’s like a medium sized Costco-if you live in the U.S you know what I’m talking about. If not, just google Costco and Sam’s club), and buy a box of pop corn and a box of veggie chips. Both non gmo.
Halloween day, I take the kids around the neighborhood with the neighbors for trick or treating. Avery was Belle, Geo was wearing a tye dye morphsuit ( you know those one piece ugly onesies) and I was a peacock. But before we go, I tell my husband and brother in law to pass out the veggie chips and pop corn if the kids started pouring to our house. My brother in law was over because 1. it was a weekend and 2. his wife ( my sister) was in Palm Springs on a business trip.
The kids and I do our Halloween round and come back to our house. I see my husband and bro in law chilling by the fire pit and they had ordered pizza. First words that come out of my mouth” so how was it?” and the words I thought I’d never hear on Halloween night ” they actually loved them and we’re running out.”
So I started freaking out because it’s only 7:00 PM and I have more customers coming for “trick or these treats” ok? So I frantically go through the pantry to gather any snacks I have. Then, to my rescue I find more veggie chips and pop corn bags. woohoo! Thank God, I was saved.
So we all sat down and continued “trick or these treats” at the Loutfi front yard. I remember an older boy say: ” wow these are my favorite”- he was referring to the veggie chips. Another girl, I think she was dressed as Alice in Wonderland, said: ” this is a big bag.” It’s not a big bag, it’s just bigger than the mini kit-kats other houses were giving out. So we became the cool house . At least I’d like to think that.
So please for this Halloween, the kids in your neighborhood are gonna get tons of mini twix, mini m&m’s, tootsie rolls, and skittles while trick or treating. So why don’t you do something different? Why don’t you trick or these treats?
- Veggie Chips
- Pop corn
- IF you insist on passing out something sweet- you can try these organic lollipops.
It’s hard to stand out, I get it. It’s way easier to go to Target and buy the ginormous assorted chocolate bag. But do you really want to be part of the sugar high the children of your own neighborhood will experience? That’s what I thought! So try trick or these treats this year and let me know how it went. Side note: you don’t have to buy exactly the brand I bought, you might find different brands.
On Tuesday November 1st, tell me in the comments below what you passed out on Halloween and I would love to hear about the reaction of the kiddos-your own and the neighbors.
